Lady Bulldogs Spikers Fall To Lady Trojans
East Central completes trifecta on home court. From Freshman Coach Erin Trenkamp: The freshman lady bulldogs traveled to EC and lost in two games. Defensively we fell short but worked hard and had some great moments. Bailey Lare played great she had 13 digs and 3 kills. Shalee Harrington also had a good game with 15 hits and 3 kills and set the ball pretty well. Game one: 22-25 game 2: 15-25.From JV Coach Shelly Prickel: The Batesville JV volleyball battled East Central to the end, but fell just short with scores 21-25, 25-19, 14-15. If it was a basketball game we would have been on the smiling side of the scoreboard. It was a back and forth match most of the way with the Lady Dogs getting out to a 6-2 lead in the third set. A couple of untimely missed serves killed momentum as the Trojans mounted a comeback. Despite this, the team regrouped and was serving for the win. A well placed attack by EC finished the match. Lily Abplanalp led the team in service points (8) and serve reception (10) from her libero position. Tori Kurtz was the top performer at the net with 8 kills and 2 stuff blocks. Margaret Weisbrod was also strong in the front line with 5 kills in 13 attempts. Caitlyn Broering had timely hits to earn 4 kills, while Kelsey Shupe’s aggressive swings netted her 4 kills in the front row. The team is now 12-2.In a short night, suffering our only 3 set loss of the season, the bulldogs fell to EC in quick sets. They out played us tonight. We were not sharp on serve receive and resulted in the equivalent of a football team keeping its defense on the field too long. When our offense got on the field we were taking some nice swings off their block, causing their defense to mis-read, but to few and far between. Defensively we still averaged over 20 digs per set, and are in the top 20 teams in the state across all classes, according to MaxPreps. We will spend time on our reception game in hopes to spark an offensive match to our top 20 Defense! The varsity team will travel to Ben Davis on Saturday to play the likes of Scecina, Jennings County and Ben Davis in the Ben Davis Invitational.Courtesy of Bulldogs Coach Jody Thomas.
