Second suspect arrested in Garfield Avenue murder

first_img ×Dashawn Mixson Dashawn Mixson JERSEY CITY – Dashawn Mixson, wanted in connection with the March 28 murder of DaJour Riley, has been arrested after a two day manhunt, said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.Mixson, 20, of Jersey City, turned himself in late on March 30 to detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit. He was arrested without incident. Mixson has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a firearm.Mixson is the second man arrested in connection with Riley’s murder.Earlier this week, Vernell Mohammed, 19, also of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with Riley’s murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder and several gun violations.On March 28, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Jersey City police officers responded to a report of shots fired at Garfield Avenue and Union Street in Jersey City. The officers then proceeded to Jersey City Medical Center after being notified of the arrival of a gunshot victim.The victim, Riley, 19, also of Jersey City, had been shot multiple times inside a vehicle at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Union Street. He was transported privately to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 p.m. The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
